Metabolomics in drug discovery
Supporting pharmaceutical companies in developing companion diagnostics is another main component of the Biocrates business and scientific portfolio.
Companion diagnostics—tests assisting in making treatment decisions—are becoming an integral part of the development of targeted therapies. They help determine how a drug works in the body, find its most effective dose, assess whether it is safe or effective, and identify patients most likely to respond or least likely to suffer an adverse reaction. Ideally, a companion diagnostic is co-developed together with the therapy it is intended to pair with. By identifying patient groups in whom a medicinal product is safe and effective even before it has been administered, a companion diagnostic test will help reduce the time and cost involved in clinical trials. Once the drug is marketed, the companion diagnostic will help lower treatments costs by targeting therapy to those who will indeed benefit from it.
Drawing on an extensive expertise in designing new methods for targeted biomarker development, Biocrates is in an excellent position to support, give advice, and partner with pharmaceutical companies intending to complement their drug development with companion diagnostics.
