Clinical metabolomics needs standardization of analytical assays to improve future inter-laboratory comparability. Steroid hormones are one of the most interesting endogenous metabolite class in clinical metabolomics today. We will present a newly developed high throughput and standardized steroid assay intending the quantitative determination of 16 steroids in human serum samples for clinical application. The analysis is based on a high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) assay. Standardized determination of concentrations of these metabolites in serum may aid in improvements in the clinical environment, e.g. in vitro fertilisation, diagnosis and treatment of steroid-related diseases.

Setting New Standards in Steroid Hormone Analysis:
SteroIDQ® Kit by BIOCRATES Life Sciences AG

16.05.2011 – Austrian BIOCRATES Life Sciences AG, a prime developer of metabolite biomarkers, announces the launch of its first CE-marked in vitro diagnostic SteroIDQ®. SteroIDQ® Kit allows for the simultaneous analysis of a panel of 16 steroid hormones using tandem mass spectrometry—all from a single blood sample.

Metabolomic biomarker research for the early detection of diabetes

13.01.2011 – International expert meeting on the current status, benefits, and opportunities of metabolomics in the nutritional sciences, diabetes research, and endocrinology

Metabolomic biomarker research is a young research area that carries great hopes for both medicine and the nutritional sciences, particularly for the early detection of genetically determined diseases. Today, the first Round Table Conference on Metabolomics will take place in Vienna, bringing together high-level international experts to discuss the state of science and the future of metabolomics in diabetology and the nutritional sciences. The Austrian biotech company BIOCRATES Life Science AG provides cutting-edge support to these new research areas by contributing valuable research results, making available state-of-the-art research products, and setting milestones in the early detection of diabetes and in the field of personalized medicine.
